North Yorkshire County Council - Real Work Real Rewards
Opportunities - Graduates

We should make it clear that working in local government is no easy option. It offers some of the toughest, most intellectually stimulating challenges around.

Consider the facts: we’re a large employer, with a multi-million pound remit and a vast and complex network of services. We have to run things as effectively and efficiently as any major business, utilising the same principles, methodologies and levels of innovation. The difference is that we’re spending public money and affecting millions of lives in every way you can think of. It’s high impact stuff. It's real work for real life.

As a graduate, we would welcome your application to any of the vacancies featured on our website pages, but if you are looking for something a bit more tailored perhaps a training programme is more up your street. North Yorkshire County Council currently participates in the National Graduate Development Programe (NGDP) www.ngdp.co.uk and is where we have recruited some of our most talented managers.

News of our in-house Graduate Programme will be arriving here soon, this scheme will provide graduates with the ingredients needed to make a Real Start in to the world of work and to put the skills learnt whilst studying to good use.

Not just run-of-the-mill

For graduates who aren’t quite sure of the career path to take, we can offer taster sessions in various departments of the County Council. Work experience placements can provide you with an insight into the various careers on offer at NYCC and can help you make up your mind, or even open your eyes to new opportunities. We recognise that you may have a lot of things to juggle at once, with all those balls in the air we have made the placement scheme flexible – deisgned to fit around your needs. Each placement is tailored according to your requirements and developed with you in mind – leaving you with the knowledge that you are getting a quality placement and not just a paragraph on your CV.
